In my fourth year of design school, we were each asked to re-think the chair. An object that’s existed forever. I spent days sketching, trying to understand the task of redesigning the obvious. Why are we doing this?
But I was missing the point. It was never about the chair. It was about asking the right questions.
Who is it for? What does it do? How does it work? The point was never about making another obvious object — it was in understanding the need for a new solution.
